ABOUT ABDULKAREEM O
I build commercial strategies that grow markets. For the last decade that has been in tech. Increasingly, it is in football. At Itana and in earlier roles, I have led go-to-market strategy, demand generation, and user acquisition across multiple markets and channels. A few highlights: a pipeline worth over in the ANZ market, 13% revenue growth during the pandemic, and a user base scaled from zero to on a single product. That same commercial lens is now trained on football, specifically the governance, ownership, and investment structures that determine how clubs and leagues perform, and how African football develops at a systemic level. My work in football sits across three areas:Football for Future: ecosystem and partnership development, exploring how football can drive sustainable development across emerging markets. The Football Week: analysis of the ownership, investment, and governance decisions that define how clubs and leagues actually function.Pitch and Policy: a Substack tracking how regulation, money, and power move through football systems, with Africa at the centre. My aim is to influence football at a structural level, across clubs, federations, and the bodies that shape how African football grows commercially, institutionally, and sustainably. If you work in football, media, tech, or development and see the same gaps, I would like to hear from you.
