ABOUT ABBY BIRCH
Money stress doesn’t stay at home.It follows us to work and shows up as distraction, absenteeism, presenteeism, reduced productivity and higher turnover. It is also one of the leading causes of mental health problems in the UK. According to the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute (2024), the knock-on effects of money stress can cost employers around 4% of payroll, roughly per employee earning financial wellbeing approaches often rely on information, tools and assumptions that don’t reflect how people really experience money. This gap is felt even more strongly by neurodivergent employees, particularly those with ADHD.For people with ADHD, money challenges are rarely about a lack of knowledge or motivation. They are about overwhelm, emotional load and systems that are not designed for how their brains work. When money support doesn’t account for this, it can unintentionally exclude the very people it is meant to help.I know this both professionally and personally.I’m Abby Birch, an award winning financial wellbeing and money expert with over 25 years’ experience across financial services, including working as a qualified financial adviser, money coach, trainer and speaker. I’m also a qualified ADHD coach and neurodivergent myself. My work sits at the intersection of financial wellbeing, neurodivergence and inclusive design. I focus on how money is talked about, how support is delivered, and how financial wellbeing can reduce stress rather than add to it.How I workI support organisations, individuals and wellbeing partners through practical financial wellbeing education and coaching. My work includes:Financial education webinars and workshops for workplacesManager and MHFA upskilling to support safe money conversationsInclusive financial wellbeing design with a neurodivergent lens1:1 coaching for people with ADHD who want to change their relationship with moneyGroup coaching programmes focused on reflection, clarity, behaviour change and confidencePartner delivery and consultancy for wellbeing providersAll of my work is independent and impartial.
