   At Transitional Characters, I am part of a visionary group practice rooted in the liberatory principles of decolonial and liberation psychology. Our name comes from the literary concept of the “transitional character”—one who transforms generational trauma in a single lifetime. That’s the work we do: therapy for the curse breakers.Under the leadership of our founder, Liana Maneese—an Afro-Latina, Black transracial adoptee, artist, mother, and antiracist educator—Transitional Characters was created as a space for healing that acknowledges the collective and ancestral wounds of colonialism, white supremacy, and disconnection.As therapists, we reject neutrality. We align with the oppressed. We practice radical honesty, relational accountability, and restorative justice. We challenge the commodification of mental health that often replicates harm, and instead we center wholeness, cultural humility, and emotional liberation.Our work is for those seeking more than symptom management—it’s for those reclaiming purpose, community, and connection to land and lineage. Together, we move toward a more just and healed world.
