Technical lead for waterborne polymers: emulsion polymerization, polyurethane dispersion, urethane-acrylic hybrid polymer, urethane-polyester, water soluble polymers, free radical polymerization Achievements - Made significant headway in the understanding the structure/property relationships using Design of Experiments to improve waterborne 1K-hydrotopcoat performance - Technical Lead for waterborne resin platform at Axalta Innovation Center; explore new resin technologies to support multiple programs (basecoat, topcoat, and clearcoat)- Support resin synthesis for the development of waterborne basecoat to improve aluminum flake control Key Responsibilities - Synthesis of new polymers for use in advanced coatings - Rational design of polymer architectures to achieve targeted properties - Characterization of polymer microstructure - Characterization of macroscopic properties, including thermal, rheological, and mechanical - Correlation of polymer structure with observed properties - Collaborate with a multi-faceted, global team in the development of novel coating systems for key markets - Work closely with multiple functions within the organization to drive novel coating systems to commercialization - Develop intellectual property protection for key innovations - Supervise associate investigator(s), organize workflow, including setting and meeting key deadline - Provide technical mentorship to junior level colleagues
