ABOUT ZOE L.
I’ve been teaching and doing marketing research at Tulane University (New Orleans) since 2020 — In the classroom, I teach the principles of marketing and how to apply them to business/city/community development. I genuinely love sharing knowledge and exchanging thoughts with my students. Outside of the classroom, I do research on psychological ownership (the feeling it is theirs/mine/ours), promotion (traditional sales promotion/social media marketing), and prosocial behaviors (charitable giving, volunteering). I use a combination of field experiments, lab experiments, survey and unstructured secondary data (e.g, text, images, short videos on social media). My research has been published in a variety of prestigious journals in marketing (JCR, JMR, JAMS) and in psychology (JPSP, Psychological Science). My research findings have been featured by national media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and National Public Radio (NPR).Before my academic endeavors, I was planning for a consulting career. I got my master’s degree in corporate management at Shanghai Jiaotong University and was part of the marketing department of L’Oréal (hair care product team), the marketing department of Shanghai Volkswagen (CRM team), and the market strategy groups of Booz & Company and Bain & Company in Shanghai providing consulting services to multinational companies in different industries. I was a recipient of Year 2013’s “Distinguished Graduate Student” award, granted by Shanghai Municipal Education Commission.I was also a recipient of Year 2009’s National Scholarship, granted by the Ministry of Education of China to the top 0.2% college students in the country. Before studying the business world, I dreamed of being a female structural engineer! I won with my team the 1st Prize in the 2008 National Contest of (Bridge) Structure Design in China!
