ABOUT ZOE HUNT

I am in my fourth year of teaching in the Bay Area. I teach at Achieve Academies, an Education for Change Charter school. I teach all subjects, focusing on literacy. As a teacher who serves students from all backgrounds, I differentiate my instruction linguistically, teaching in both English and Spanish, as well as provide materials to support ELLs, neurodivergent learners, and supporting parents through their child’s journey. I create resources for students, but also families. Education is a civil right and providing accessible resources and support is an intentional part of my work. I have previously taught at Voices College-Bound Language Academy in Richmond California. I taught first grade in a dual immersion Spanish and English program where 70% of my day was giving instruction in Spanish, including literacy, SEL and math. The 30% was devoted towards literacy focusing on reading and writing. During this time I was also in a teaching credential program where I attended Loyola Marymount University Urban Education Masters Program. I now have a fully cleared bilingual elementary school credential in the state of California. I hold a Masters Degree in Urban Education with a Concentration in Literacy. I am a Teach For America 2019 corps member and have a passion for civil and social justice. My focus was the school to prison pipeline. I began with a foot in the legal component, and a foot in education. I carry this passion through my work but found that education allows students’ joy to shine in their learning, effort, compassion and teamwork. I have previously interned at KPB Immigration Law Firm in Santa Rosa, California. There I was able to use my bilingualism and love for writing to translate interviews, testimonials, work experience, family life and immigration forms for the paralegals and attorneys working at KPB. I also attended weekly meetings on the changes the Trump Administration was posing in regards to pathways to asylum, work visas and citizenship. This knowledge I continue to carry with me and is a passion of mine. At Pitzer College I majored in Sociology with a Legal Studies emphasis and minored in Spanish. Pitzer gave me the exposer and opportunities to study the Prison Industrial Complex, something I am still passionate about and want to find opportunities for work in this area. I have taken 2 classes inside the Chino Men’s Prison, and Women’s Correctional Facility. Combining the systemic power and the individual testimonials and experiences shaped my passion for social and systemic justice.
