About Zoe Gobetz

I want to dedicate my career path to leaving the planet a better place than the way we inherited it. Thus, I chose Chemical Engineering as my course of study, with the intent to focus on creating and optimizing renewable energy technologies. Throughout my education, I discovered that my passion for sustainability can be manifested in a plethora of forms. Through my interest, I connected with a professor in the environmental engineering department at NC State Univeristy, who hired me as a research lab technician to work with a novel form of renewable energy called Reverse Electrodialysis cells. During my final semester in university, I was employed as a temporary research lab technician by Tethis Inc. The company specializes in manufacturing biodegradable superabsorbent polymers, a material used in female hygiene products and diapers. My project focused on optimizing a waste stream in the process. After graduation, I was lucky enough to attain a six-month internship with Veolia Water in France. I have taken on two different pilots which I operate, record and report data, and present on. This work has taught me a wealth of knowledge regarding water treatment, yet I believe the most important attribute it has taught me is adaptability. I moved to a foreign country where I did not know any of the language nor any of the people there. I am currently still working in this internship, which terminates in March.From my experience in sustainable energy, materials, and water, I continue to learn about the myriad of ways in which my career can make the world better. Outside my experience, I have been a yoga and cycling instructor through the duration of my studies and see myself as a well-rounded person. I have a naturally empathetic personality that helps me to understand most points-of-view for different situations. I love in-depth discussions, communicating technical subjects to people without a technical background, and bringing out the best in others and myself.
