Primary Supervisor of an innovative PhD project regarding 3D-printing of cell-laden bioinks. Preparation and characterisation are done via a unique combination of Design of Experiments (DoE) and Rheology, allowing for specific experiments to be performed that identify composition parameters affecting key mechanical properties.

ABOUT GEORGINA ZIMBITAS
I am a strategic, multidisciplinary scientist and educator with over 17 years of experience leading research and teaching across the fields of chemical engineering, materials science, and physical chemistry. I specialise in building and managing impactful projects at the intersection of industry and academia, with a strong track record in R&D leadership, postgraduate supervision, and cross-functional collaboration.My work has spanned advanced topics such as surface/interface science, nanomaterials, colloidal systems, and crystallisation, but what defines me most is the ability to lead projects from ideation through to application—connecting scientific innovation to real-world challenges. I’ve directed industry-linked research on product formulation, materials optimisation, and upscaling, working closely with companies such as Church & Dwight, Tata Steel, and Procter & Gamble.I bring a people-focused leadership style, developed through years of supervising postgraduate researchers, coordinating cross-disciplinary teams, and designing high-impact STEM curricula. I am equally comfortable mentoring early-career scientists as I am managing timelines and external stakeholder relationships.Currently, I am expanding my leadership toolkit by integrating emerging technologies, AI, and data science into materials research, exploring how technologies like machine learning can enhance decision-making and innovation.
