About Zichao H.
I\'m an enthusiastic imaging scientist. I\'ve been fascinated by light, color, and its ability to capture scenes from a very early age, but soon did I realize that I had more questions than answers, and that\'s what eventually led me to this PhD program at RIT, to explore answers to the question like \"why things work the way they do\".So what I\'m capable of - as an imaging scientist, I understand the composition of the whole imaging chain, including lens, ISP, and sensor, and corresponding relationships between each imaging component of generation, processing and perception. I have extensive work experience in camera optics and image quality tuning and benchmarking, as well as solid backgrounds in human vision perception and color science. This interdisciplinary background allows me to solve problems at a higher level of a system, which I believe is especially critical in the field of Imaging. Particularly, I am familiar with image quality attributes, underlying theory, testing procedures, and evaluation methodologies. I also possess a firm base of knowledge in the multi-view geometry of computer vision, including camera calibration, intrinsic and extrinsic metrics estimation and calculation, typical optimization algorithms with the consideration of a cost function, etc.Optics-wise, I have excellent optical system design experience within projects of both academic and industrial, including acoustic lens design for a dual-mode imaging camera (that\'s my PhD thesis project), system design for a microscope objective and a laser-scanning microscopy, optical design for a camera defocus calibration and measurement system. And of course, as a good imaging scientist you\'ll just have to know how to code, though I don\'t consider it to be my greatest strength compared to my other skills/experience, but I can code well in Matlab and C, dealing from low level of image processing to some high levels of machine vision, pattern recognition, and deep learning.I’m proud of my interdisciplinary backgrounds in Optics, Computer Engineering, and Color Science - it makes up the essentials when comes to designing a brand new world-class camera, and more importantly, making it a reality and further pushing the field of Imaging to a whole next new level.
