ABOUT ZHILA RUSSELL
As a Materials Engineer at Dalhousie University, I perform innovative R&D work to apply solutions to material design problems and address the expectations of our clients with respect to public health and ethics. I have over eight years of experience in this role, and I hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution. My core competencies, include materials science, tribology, coatings technology, and corrosion sciences. I am fascinated by changing the behavior of materials through manipulating their microstructure and controlling their mechanical properties. My latest field of study is the production of innovative feedstock for laser cladding and additive manufacturing applications using novel ceramics such as TiC and TiVC. I also design surface preparation methods and perform specialized mechanical and corrosion tests for steel parts operating in harsh environments. I have received multiple awards and publications for my work in this field.
