About Zhaoyi Xi

I’m currently a Senior Process Engineer at ASM.Before joining ASM, I was a research assistant at the Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN), Brookhaven National Laboratory. I received my PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from Stony Brook University in June 2025. Since joining CFN in September 2021, my research has focused on thin film deposition techniques, including pulsed laser deposition (PLD), atomic layer deposition (ALD), and other physical vapor deposition (PVD) methods.I have extensive hands-on experience with a wide range of materials characterization techniques, such as UHV-XPS, ambient pressure XPS (AP-XPS), SEM, TEM, XRD/XRR, AFM, UV-Vis, Raman spectroscopy, ellipsometry, FTIR, and UPS. In addition, I’m skilled in various thermal processing methods, including rapid thermal annealing, box furnaces, and tube furnaces. I also have experience in focused ion beam (FIB) lift-out for TEM sample preparation.Working in a Department of Energy (DOE) user facility, I’ve supported over 30 external users and contributed to 8+ collaborative research projects with universities and national laboratories. My role involved case-by-case process development, equipment training, and optimization strategies tailored to diverse research needs. I have over four years of experience operating, maintaining, and managing the PLD system at CFN.With a strong interdisciplinary background that combines photoelectrochemistry (e.g, PV probe station for PEC testing) and catalytic material evaluation (micro-scale catalyst reactor), I offer a comprehensive skill set in thin film fabrication, performance testing, and advanced characterization.
