ABOUT ZERRIN TEMIZ

Zerrin Temiz is a dynamic professional with a passion for bioengineering, genetics, and music, currently pursuing an MRes in Bioengineering at Imperial College London after graduating as the top student with First Class Honours from Oxford Brookes University with a 4.00/4.00 GPA.Her academic focus includes the intersection of genetics, synthetic biology, and food technology. Under Dr. Rodrigo Ledesma-Amaro’s guidance, she is exploring synthetic protein design for sustainable, health-focused food technologies, maintaining a robust interest in genetics.Parallel to her academic career, Zerrin is a successful singer-songwriter and composer. Her debut single, “Hislerim,” topped the charts as the most listened to Turkish song globally, making a significant mark in the music industry. Her music uniquely combines electronic, pop, and indie with elements from Turkish and Western music, forming a unique sound.An alumna of the Turkish Entrepreneurship Foundation (GİRVAK), Zerrin leads the “Algal Sustainable Cities” initiative, developing urban solutions through algal biotechnology. This project has earned numerous national and international accolades, including being a Turkey finalist and securing second place in Europe in the British American Tobacco (BAT) Battle of Minds global competition.She was recently honored in the Kız Kardeşim Projesi Yıldızlar Karması Program, led by The Coca-Cola Company in cooperation with ÖSGD and Ahbap Derneği, where she promotes Turkish culture through original music and videos.Zerrin also champions social responsibility and volunteerism. She spearheaded the “Şehrimin Turizm Elçisiyim” project under the European Commission’s e-Twinning program and led the “Sevgi Yumağı” project, offering concerts in nursing homes and Turkish Social Service and Children Protection Institutions, gaining national attention.Combining scientific expertise, artistic flair, and a commitment to social impact, Zerrin is dedicated to pioneering bioengineering and music fields, driven by a passion for discovery and making a positive global impact. She continuously seeks new opportunities to contribute to groundbreaking advancements.
