ABOUT ZEENAT MUHAMMAD

I am a recent graduate of the University of Illinois Chicago with a B.S. in Neuroscience and minor in Nutrition, currently pursuing the path toward medical school. My time as a student has been driven by a strong interest in science, research, and teaching, along with a growing dedication to patient-centered care. Through research experiences at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine and the Shingleton Laboratory at UIC, I developed analytical and laboratory skills while contributing to projects focused on behavioral neuroscience.I have chosen to dedicate my gap year to strengthening my clinical foundation and preparing for medical school. I currently work in a patient care–focused clinical role, where I am gaining hands-on experience in healthcare delivery, developing my communication skills, and deepening my understanding of patient needs. Alongside this work, I am preparing for the MCAT and continuing to seek opportunities that allow me to integrate research, clinical exposure, and service. In addition to my clinical work, I have served as a Teaching Assistant for the UIC Honors College and as a peer tutor in genetics and organic chemistry, supporting students in their academic development and promoting collaborative learning. I have also held leadership roles as president of three student organizations and worked as a Commuter Center Peer Mentor, experiences that strengthened my commitment to mentorship, service, and community building. My goal is to combine research, compassion, and clinical excellence as I continue shaping myself into a thoughtful and effective future physician.
