ABOUT ZVEZDOMIR ZAMFIROV

As a physician, I specialize in pain management. Previously, I was an orthopedic surgeon treating professional athletes. I had been a professional athlete myself and so developed an interest in sports medicine. These past experiences have given me a unique perspective on pain management.As a teen, I played professional soccer. Though I was often in awe of my teammates’ athletic abilities, I was even more impressed by the physicians who treated our injuries. I came to realize that an athlete’s success can depend on the medical care he receives. I decided to study medicine.After graduating medical school I completed an orthopedic surgery residency. I was a physician for several sports teams. I enjoyed being a surgeon. But I also came to appreciate the importance of preventive and non-operative treatments. I operated on many professional athletes and I found it extremely rewarding to watch these athletes return to the playing field.Eventually, frustration with career limitations and concern for my children’s futures motivated me to leave Bulgaria and move to the United States. After learning English and passing the medical boards, I was accepted to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program at Montefiore Medical Center and later on I transferred and finished my education at Georgetown University/National Rehabilitation Hospital. There, I received extensive training in pain management and interventional spine procedures. At All Star, I help patients resume activities they once enjoyed without undergoing surgery. I offer non-surgical solutions for orthopedic conditions and injuries to joints, muscles and nerves. My special areas of interest and expertise include herniated discs, radiculopathy, lower back pain, spinal stenosis, facet syndrome and degenerative disc disease, sports injuries, regenerative medicine, neuromodulation. I am proud to be a physician who built a successful career twice; in Bulgaria and my adopted home, the United States. I consider it a privilege to help people live better lives.
