Advance the federal policy interests of a congressionally-chartered non-profit scientific society representing within its membership community. Track and analyze developments by higher education associations on a collaborative proposal to restructure federal research funding to author a memo on their final proposal’s potential policy implications and effects on ACS members. Attend and compile notes on congressional hearings, association briefings, and other events relevant to science policy among other matters relevant to ACS policy priorities. Compiled 42 state-specific data sheets covering economic and workforce impacts of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) jobs and research in those states for use by ACS members in federal advocacy fly-ins. Coordinated an ACS intern cohort event with the office of Rep. Bill Foster (IL-11) featuring a dialogue with his science policy fellow covering current events in science policy among other topics and a subsequent staff-guided tour of the U.S Capitol. Facilitated 30+ members’ advocacy skill development through leading policy communication drills and simulating congressional meetings ACS’ Fall 2025 conference, resulting in members’ increased readiness for grassroots advocacy. Developed fundamental understanding of intellectual property, critical materials, STEM education, and lab-related commerce policy to holistically support internal team project coordination across 23 board-approved ACS policy priorities.
