Rise Above is a private practice and peer support group founded on the principle that sobriety does not be boring. Taking the queues from the famous Black Flag song of the same name, Rise Above replaces the human entity of society with each person\'s drug of choice. Each member is taking on the challenge to no longer be slave to the substance, but take control and rise above to soar at greater heights, defiantly casting away personal doubt and naysayers using the same passion and punk rock rebellion embedded deep in us all. Rise Above private practice was founded in 2013, by Zandra Ellis, MA, LCDC, a Dallas native and Masters-level Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor who knows what it is like to have to start over from scratch while trying to still maintain her personalized recovery journey. Never being one for being much of a homebody, she began to explore new ways to stay involved in the art and music scene and create new ways of having fun that did not require having to be drunk or high in the process. Rise Above is a practice that is also a social movement that encourages sober gathers at events that could possibly cause triggers. Because none of us can ever assure that we will never be around substances, Rise Above\'s aim is to use cutting edge exposure therapy methods, CBT, and Narrative therapy to address the triggers and cravings, and create new memories based in sobriety. Rise Above also assists with Moderation Management and other harm reduction practices to meet everyone where they are on their particular journey.
