About Zakiya Kainu
For over three decades, I have been a Property Manager at Southern Management Corp, one of the largest privately owned residential property management companies in the Mid-Atlantic region. In this role, I manage and maintain a portfolio of luxury properties, ensuring high occupancy rates, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency. I also write and manage multi-million dollar budgets, negotiate leases, and supervise staff and contractors.I am passionate about sharing my insights and expertise with others in the real estate industry. That is why I am also an Advisor at AdvisoryCloud, where I provide advice and guidance to clients and peers on various topics related to property management. I hold a Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) designation from the National Apartment Association, and I have been a board member, co-chair, and past president of the Property Management Association (PMA), one of the largest and most prestigious trade associations in the region. I am also a state examiner for the Maryland Performance and Excellence Award (MPEA), which recognizes organizations that demonstrate excellence in quality and performance. In recognition of my contributions to the field, I received an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Humane Letters from Indiana Institute of Technology in 2013.
