ABOUT ZAINAB MAHMOOD
As a second year BSc Physics student at University College London, the focal point of my academic pursuits lies in scientific research. While I have pursued this discipline in some capacity within multiple internships and a research publication, I am eager to explore more opportunities that allow me to expand my empirical knowledge and release my ‘mad scientist’ energies, particularly in the fields of condensed matter physics and nanotechnology (my vertically challenged self happens to appreciate all things tiny). Possessing a longstanding interest in addressing environmental challenges at a global scale, I have frequently attempted to examine the intersection between physics and sustainable development in order to create real-world sustainability solutions with real-world impact. Throughout my endeavours, I have amassed a substantial store of knowledge regarding practical ESG compliance solutions, Double Materiality Assessment (DMA) processes, global sustainability standards, and sustainability reporting. My zealous predisposition towards English literature, writing, and journalism is not something I consider as mutually exclusive to my STEM-centred inclinations but rather complementary to the latter. I have honed my verbal eloquence and ability to clearly convey complex ideas through several stints in editorial work, debate, academic research, literary analysis, and a plethora of composed essays, narratives, and poems (though I would not venture to call myself a successful poet by any means).
