ABOUT ZAID HASSAN
Zaid Hassan is a strategist and a writer. He has spent the last twenty-five tackling the world\'s most complex challenges. Zaid’s career can be split into two parts. The first part spanned a good decade. During this phase he worked in the belief that tackling complex challenges was something that can be learned from others. His job was simply to learn the craft. During this phase Zaid had the privilege of working all around the world for governments, civil society, philanthropists and corporations. He worked with and advised organisations such as the World Bank, the UN Foundation, WWF, Oxfam, the Governments of Canada, Germany, Liberia, New Zealand and UAE. He worked on issues as diverse as agriculture, artificial intelligence, climate change, early childhood development, education, energy, financial systems, malnutrition, mental health, peace building and security, state collapse, sustainable development, and youth employment. After almost ten years it dawned on him that we, as a society, almost entirely lack a practice for effectively tackling complex social challenges. What he had been diligently doing was a form of malpractice. He saw problems getting worse. The second half of Zaid’s career focused on building a practice for tackling our most complex challenges. This means abandoning familiar business-as-usual malpractices, while building new forms of practice. His work focuses on fostering effective strategic action, while debunking false solutions. Zaid co-founded 10-in-10 in 2019, where he is currently CEO, an organization with a mission to demonstrate how to effectively tackle ten complex challenges in ten years. As part of this mission Zaid co-founded Gigatonne, an at-scale strategic response to the climate crisis. Over the last three years Gigatonne has operated in 70+ cities around the world. As a strategy it has the potential of shifting the trajectory of the climate crisis in 60 months.Prior to 10-in-10, Zaid convened and co-founded Reos Partners in 2007, and Roller Strategies in 2014. He studied physics at Brunel University but dropped out to go into the.com boom. Zaid teaches and guest lectures regularly.His new book, How to Evolve (Peakrill Press, 2026) is a rihla, a distillation of what Zaid’s journey has taught him. It builds on his previous best-selling book, “The Social Labs Revolution: A New Approach To Solving Our Most Complex Challenges” (Berret-Koehler, 2014) as well as many papers, articles and essays.
