In recent years, I have been assigned to provide software architectural guidance to the Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) Database project a “Cooperation” held among international agencies like USPTO, European Patent Office) and others like Korea, Japan and China are eager to join this collaborative effort of common classification of patents applications. CPC is developed under the Agile/SCRUM methodology. I have selected the most appropriate framework, Spring-Data-JPA, for the project. I quickly developed a functional prototype with MySQL and then help to create a sample and robust framework for it. I have persuaded Development vendor to adopt the framework as their baseline for service developments, both ReSTful and SOAP services. I also helped designed several Oracle tables to be utilized to incorporate business rules. I led the effort for developing a Software Detailed Design Document for CPC Database project. I am providing guidance for developing Conflict Resolution Engine, and working closely with DB Group. Not only do I interact with internal stakeholders on a regular basis I also periodically meet with the European partners. I manage the funding/budgetary issues for two of the smaller projects that I lead. This include writing SOW and Charter for the projects, evaluating proposals, and hiring appropriate consultants and lead and monitor the development activities for the projects. In 2010, I led the effort for creating the enterprise standards for XML and Web services, SOAP based and ReSTful Services exploiting XML. I presented a very well-received summary of the XML standard to the Enterprise Architecture Governing Board and got their seal of approval. I have conducted several detailed walk-through of the standard to several technical communities. In my manager’s words, “Zahid establishes feasible and attainable goals for the project assigned. works well with others both internally and externally to the division.(2010 Evaluation)”.
