ABOUT ZAHID KADIR
As a Data professional with 3+ years of experience, I have worked across both government and private sectors, where I\'ve discovered that the most rewarding aspect of data science is seeing how those insights transform decision-making. Most recently at NEC Software Solutions, I helped the Youth Justice Board to better understand offending patterns through interactive dashboards, whilst my previous role at the Ministry of Justice allowed me to investigate factors that led vulnerable victims to drop out of a case. My time as a Data Scientist at the Ministry of Justice really shaped how I approach complex problems. There, I built an XGBoost model to predict victim attrition, using SHAP values to help policy teams understand exactly which factors were driving the predictions. The technical challenge wasn\'t just about model accuracy as I had to also tackle class imbalance with SMOTE and optimise performance through Recursive Feature Elimination, all whilst ensuring the insights were accessible to non-technical stakeholders. This experience taught me that the best solutions come from combining rigorous technical methods with clear communication. Throughout my career, I\'ve found that the most successful data projects happen when diverse perspectives come together. I believe in making data accessible to everyone involved and I take pride in mentoring junior colleagues and leading cross-functional workshops where complex technical concepts are translated into actionable business strategies. My approach is always to listen first, understand the real business problem, and then work collaboratively to build solutions that stakeholders can confidently use and trust.
