ABOUT ZAFAR KHAN

Over 25 years of professional experience as a Process Engineer in the field of process engineering design, process integration, process operations, process controls, process safety and management in petrochemicals, natural gas sweetening, dehydration and heavy oil projects. Extensive experience in NGL facilities, fractionation plants, cavern design and pipeline gathering systems. Lead projects during construction phase as project engineer and engineering Manager; Experience includes:Team leader as well as a team player for small to multibillion dollars projects in a deadline driven EPC environment from basic and conceptual engineering studies to detailed engineering, construction, commissioning, start-ups, shutdowns, troubleshooting and value engineering. Preparation of engineering proposals, project planning, execution, man-hour estimates, scheduling and progress reporting.FEED and Detail Engineering package preparation including heat and material balance, PFDs, P & IDs, LDTs, process schematics, tie-ins and demolition drawings, equipment and instrument data sheets for process plants.Process engineering calculations for all major process equipment, e.g. distillation column, separators, heat exchangers, vessels, tanks, slurry pumpboxes, pumps, compressors, control and relief valves and line hydraulics.Process simulations using HYSYS, ASPEN PLUS, VMGSim, FLARENET, HTRI, FATHOM and ARROW simulation models for equipment sizing, heat & material balance and line hydraulics.Development of design specifications, process description and operating guidelines, control narratives, cause & effect diagrams and shutdown keys.Expert knowledge in technical safety & loss prevention including safety studies, HAZOP’s, What-If, LOPA, SIL Assessments, firewater, fire & gas, human factors, environmental and risk management.Utilization of codes and standards such as API, ASME, ASTM, ABSA, TSASK CSA, EPA, occupational health and safety, and Alberta building code, etc.
