ABOUT ZACK WARD

I am a communications specialist at Leftover Love (a food rescue nonprofit in Baltimore) with a passion for eliminating poverty. I have aided the fight to end homelessness by writing for Invisible People (a leader in changing the narrative on homelessness) and working on content creation at StandUp for Kids (a national nonprofit focused on combatting youth homelessness). I have always been dedicated to social change; before starting down the path of nonprofits, I wrote about the intersection of sports and society as a journalist, including a niche focus on women’s basketball that allowed me to spotlight the WNBA’s leading voice in the Black Lives Matter and Say Her Name movements, as well as Maya Moore’s heroic decision to give up a superstar basketball career to pursue criminal justice reform. While at the Capital News Service Annapolis bureau, I wrote articles about LGBTQIA+ rights (one was picked up by The Chicago Tribune) and the dangers of concussions in sports (one was picked up by The Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune). I have written for a number of other major outlets: USA TODAY (as an intern), The Boston Globe (as a freelancer) and The New Hampshire Union Leader (as a staff reporter).
