SKILLS
ABOUT ZACH L.
As Halton Region’s Systems Performance Specialist, I am dedicated to improving water and wastewater infrastructure. In my role, I lead the Continuous Wastewater Flow Monitoring Program, Water System Monitoring Program, Gauge Adjusted Radar Rainfall (GARR) Program, and oversee the Regional Rain Gauges. By utilizing data and real-time monitoring, I identify potential issues and recommend strategies to improve the efficiency, reliability, and sustainability of the infrastructure. As a proud member of the Public Works Department and the System Design & Performance (SDP) team, my passion lies in mitigating basement flooding, reducing inflow and infiltration, and ensuring that critical water systems are optimized for the benefit of our communities. Previously, as Manager of Environmental Data Services at AMG Environmental, I oversaw the company’s storm and sewer flow monitoring services. While managing the Data Analysis Department, I focused on providing the best quality data possible by reducing assumptions and increasing transparency through proactive quality control and assurance. I studied open-channel flow hydraulics, reviewed hydrographs, and analyzed scatter plots to track emerging trends in the data. The resulting product helped municipalities pinpoint areas with elevated levels of inflow and infiltration. I have also worked as an Environmental Lab and Field Technician at Environment Canada, where I contributed to the Great Lakes Nutrient Initiative and the Chemicals Management Plan. These experiences gave me a deep understanding of the importance of accurate and reliable data in the environmental field. I hold a B.A.(Hons) in Geography from The University of Guelph and an Environmental Technician diploma from Mohawk College.
