About Zach Hao

Hey! I’m a graduate student in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Washington, advised by Prof. Shwetak Patel, and fortunate to collaborate with Prof. Vikram Iyer and Prof. Jon E. Froehlich. My research at the UW Ubicomp Lab explores the intersection of wearable computing, ubiquitous sensing, and human–AI collaboration — designing intelligent systems that integrate seamlessly into everyday life.My work focuses on developing embedded and AI-assisted wearable systems that sense, interpret, and respond to human activity in real time. I’m particularly interested in how hardware–software co-design and human-centered interfaces can extend human capabilities, support accessibility, and foster richer forms of human–computer interaction (HCI).Before joining UW, I earned my B.Eng. in Automation from the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) in Shenzhen, China, where I graduated with distinction. My undergraduate research in smart IoT systems and AI-driven sensing received the Distinguished Graduation Project Award, sparking my ongoing interest in intelligent, connected technologies.I’m passionate about creating technologies that make computing more context-aware, adaptive, and human-centered, and I’m always open to collaborations across AIoT, wearables, and interactive systems research.
