About Zachary S.
I\'m on a mission to find and develop the best ways to use technology to help people climb Maslow\'s Hierarchy and create a more just world. With a therapist for a mother and a Computer Information Systems professor for a father, it\'s no surprise that I ended up as a software engineer with an abiding interest in how technology shapes our behavior and relationships. I’m also an avid reader and dedicated learner dedicated to studying the design of apps that help people build better habits. I\'ve been working in tech for six years (first Amazon, now Assurance). I\'ve delivered overhauls to legacy systems (I know a lot about what *not* to do when incorporating identity and access management into a business) and built data pipelines and internal interfaces. In the past year, I\'ve been driving risk reductions from critical security audits across the tech department at Assurance (around 10 teams of engineers). With my projects, I\'ve developed a strong foundation in backend engineering while enhancing my product and people management skills. Professional development is important to me: I regularly spend time reading about the rise of the attention economy or diving into InfoSec best practices. I enjoy making an impact on my community and developing useful skills for inside and outside my career. I currently volunteer for The Humane League, an organization that fights for cage-free egg policies around the world. As a local organizer, I have mobilized volunteers for national and international campaigns, worked on strategic initiatives with groups across the US, and collaborated with other local animal rights organizations, which has resulted in me practicing community building and leadership skills.
