ABOUT ZACH GONZALEZ

I am the owner of Zach\'s Landscaping, a company I run back home. I started landscaping when I was 13 and have been building the company since. The summer of 2022, I grossed $28k dollars and my net profit margin was 64%. I was voted through the public as a top 3 finalist for Young Entrepreneur of the Year and placed 2nd at the Gala, hosted by West Point\'s Chamber of Commerce. While in school, I have driven two hours every other weekend to run my business. Freshman year in 2020, I was a part of the Hampden-Sydney baseball team, the honors program, ran my business, and kept up with school. This was the time of the pandemic which made everything harder on myself. My sophomore year I gave up baseball and continued to work for myself and on my education. Whilst working for myself, I\'ve obtained several other jobs. During the winter months when Landscaping was slow, I worked for Brockwells Septic, a company ran by my friend\'s dad. I worked with this company over winter breaks and during the summer on top of landscaping to maximize returns. I learned a lot about how septic systems and drain fields worked. My job was to locate the septic tank, dig and uncover, and pump or inspect depending on federal guidelines.Im currently in my Junior year of college and I still run my landscaping company. I worked at tractor supply for five months while in college which expanded my landscaping knowledge. Through all of this I managed to start the official Racquetball Club at Hampden-Sydney. I got approval from the deans and presented in front of the student senate. The purpose of the club is to facilitate organized games, teach newcomers, and enjoy a recreational sport.I’m currently have a research paper posted through the Institute of Behavior and Applied Management, IBAM, with 2 classmates and Dr. Matyus, a business professor at Hampden-Sydney College. We researched consumer expenditure habits through e-commerce and brick and mortar. We as a group received the Honors Council Hampden-Sydney College Summer Research Grant. We shared our findings with the college and community at the H-SC research symposium as well as through the web.
