About Zachary Meryn

I’m a Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics student at Vanderbilt University with hands-on experience in engineering research, machine learning, and experimental systems. I’ve worked as a research assistant at Columbia University and Manhattan College, where I conducted experimental and computational research across hydrogen-based carbon-neutral cement, signal processing, and neural network modeling of physical systems. I’ve authored and co-authored peer-reviewed research papers and built models and simulations using MATLAB, Simulink, and data-driven methods.Currently, I’m an Undergraduate Researcher in the Vanderbilt University Welding Automation Lab (VUWAL), working on friction stir welding (FSW) projects involving sensor integration, data acquisition, and experimental analysis of how process parameters affect weld strength and defect rates. In parallel, I serve as Assistant Center Director at Mathnasium of Riverdale, where I lead instruction for 200+ students, design curriculum, and manage daily operations—developing strong leadership, communication, and technical teaching skills.I’m looking to apply my skills in a summer engineering internship where I can work on real-world mechanical, robotics, or data-driven engineering problems. I’m especially interested in roles that blend hands-on engineering with modeling, automation, or machine learning, and I’m motivated to take on technically challenging projects that have measurable impact.
