The Technology and Communications Committee is responsible for protecting states’ interests in federal decisions in the growing field of artificial intelligence, broadband, cybersecurity, 911 and E-911, telecommunications, data privacy, content and internet regulation, digital services and emerging technologies. The committee provides legislators and legislative staff with an opportunity to share and learn from the experiences of other states.

ABOUT ZACHARY MAIER
Zac Maier has served as the Information Technology Director for the Indiana State Senate since 2012. As Senate IT Director, Zac is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, and execution of all IT functions for the Senate, including, among other tasks, IT support for Senators and staff, supporting and maintaining existing infrastructure, applications, and development of new technical solutions, providing staff training, web and streaming management, and managing all Senate chamber equipment including the voting system and video wall. As IT Director, Zac has spearheaded a number of modernization projects for the Senate, including updating committee streaming and A/V equipment, creating and maintaining a Senate-wide emergency procedure and notification system, implementing a cybersecurity training curriculum, and providing video conferencing spaces. In 2024, Zac was added to Indiana\'s Artificial Intelligence Task Force.Zac is a member of the National Association of Legislative Information Technology (NALIT). As a member of NALIT, Zac meets annually with legislative IT professionals from across the country to exchange ideas and information on all aspects of legislative information systems.Zac was also appointed to the NCSL Task Force on Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Privacy and serves as Staff co-chair of the NCSL Technology and Communications Committee.Zac graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana with a degree in Computer Technology and a minor in Business Administration.
