About Yvonne Maffei

I am a gastronomy and food systems researcher focused on the cultural, economic, and policy dimensions of food. My work uses the halal economy as a lens to examine broader questions of global food systems, sustainability, and cross-cultural trade and explores how gastronomic heritage and culturally-specific food practices shape global food systems, with particular attention to their role in trade, sustainability, and cross-cultural exchange. I am especially interested in how these dynamics inform more inclusive and culturally-aware approaches to food policy and development.With over 15 years of experience as an author and researcher, I have contributed to international discussions on food systems, гастro-tourism, and global food markets. My work has been featured in major media outlets and presented in academic and institutional settings, including collaborations with universities and international organizations.My research engages with themes of cultural food economies, consumer behavior, and the relationship between food, identity, and economic systems. I am particularly interested in the Mediterranean as a site of гастрономic heritage and as a dynamic region for exploring the intersection of culture, sustainability, and global trade.I am interested in opportunities to contribute to academic research, teaching, and institutional initiatives related to gastronomy, food systems, and sustainable development.
