ABOUT YUE YUAN
Dr. Yuan joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory in November 2022 as an Alvin M. Weinberg Distinguished Staff Fellow in the Macromolecular Nanomaterials Group at the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences. With a Ph.D. in Fiber and Polymer Science and a graduate minor in Biochemistry, Dr. Yuan\'s dissertation research focused on the immobilization of biomolecules (enzymes) for carbon dioxide (CO2) scrubbing materials as well as mechanistic studies of interaction between the biomolecules and biobased polymeric matrices. Dr. Yuan has about eight years hands-on experience in sub-micron and nano-scale fabrication for novel fibrous polymeric materials and characterization, as well as surface modifications of fibrous materials to achieve certain properties (e.g. superhydrophobicity, catalytic function). Applied functional polymeric materials to applications such as anti-fouling surfaces, controlled drug release, and biocatalytic matrices. Have had experiences in conducting microorganism cultivation (e.g. bacterial, yeast, filamentous fungus) and method developments for biopolymer isolation from microorganisms. Professional skills also include experimental designs, data analysis, patent analysis, problem-solving, scientific writing, communication, building collaborations and leadership in the scientific area.
