About Crystal Yang
Chemist turned data scientist with 3+ years of experience manipulating data and optimizing workflow in Python. Throughout my education, I have come to realize everything is a system and rarely are these systems perfect. In graduate school, my predecessors passed down Excel templates and told me to click and drag cells to analyze data. After numerous hand cramps from all this clicking and dragging, I had enough and wrote my own Python script to analyze the data and shared the code with my colleagues, saving all of us hours of time. It was during this time that I realized I’m all about improving efficiency. But how do I combine my passion for improving efficiency, coding, and making an impact? Cue data science. How can we find out if a product is good or not? Instead of reading hundreds of reviews, we can apply NLP techniques for sentiment analysis. How can we help radiologists and doctors save time? Apply neural networks to examine hundreds of biopsy samples originating from a single patient and pick out problematic samples, allowing doctors to examine more patients in a day. I have experience in data wrangling, predictive modeling, and machine learning techniques and am eager to apply them to provide high impact and actionable results.
