ABOUT YONGYUT GANJANATHAVAT

Since 1978, Ute Ganjanathavat had been practicing engineering for bridges and retaining walls throughout Oklahoma. He had been involved with high-speed rail bridge designs in northern California, light rail bridge and retaining wall designs in Dallas, Texas, curved steel girder bridge design of I-270 Interchange in Denver, Colorado, and underground storage structure and tangent pile wall designs for the new U.S. embassy in Taiwan. His experience included major interchange and direct connector structural design (concrete and steel), urban and rural bridge designs, highway retaining wall designs, bridge class culvert layout and designs, development of major and minor PS & E, and inspections and assessments of fracture critical and non-fracture critical bridges. Ute had designed both new bridges and widening and rehabilitation of existing bridges, including steel and concrete. His wide range of experience included twenty-six years of bridge designs with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) Bridge Division. Ute’s additional duty while working with ODOT was to maintain and update in-house computer software. He had developed a computer software to analyze prestressed concrete Double-T girders while working with ODOT. He joined private consulting firms since his retirement from ODOT in 2004.Ute not only had designed significant highway bridges but also major rail and mass transit structures, as well as related rail station facilities structures and appurtenances, such as retaining walls and station platforms. He had analyzed rail structures and retaining walls for the resistance of earthquake forces. Ute’s wastewater engineering experience included structural analysis and design for rehabilitation of pump stations for wastewater treatment in Houston, Texas. Ute enjoyed learning new skills for example: he took a two-week NHI Bridge Inspection Course and a four-day NHI Fracture Critical Bridge Inspection Course to lead a bridge inspection team in Oklahoma. The fracture critical bridges required hands-on inspections and some of those bridges required rope climbing as a mean to access bridge members. Ute learned rope climbing and led the first bridge inspection climbing team in Oklahoma. In October 2022, Ute passed FAA test for remote pilot license, and he was certified to use drone to assist in bridge inspections and assessments.
