ABOUT YOKO KOYAMA
I am passionate about modeling engineered water systems with open-source programming language such as python and R. I have obtained my Master\'s degree with a research focus on GAC treatment of micropollutants, such as PFASs. My research encompasses both laboratory and modeling work. I am experienced in conducting bench scale water treatment tests and building predictive models to assess water treatment efficacy. My MS thesis-turned GAC ML tool has helped over 30 water treatment plants across the US and has totaled $1M in savings for physical experimental costs and saved utilities months of time with PFAS planning. I aspire to be an engineer who can contribute to infrastructure development for communities in need, to safeguard their public health from hazardous chemical exposure. Specifically, I desire to help communities better their quality of life by improving their water quality. Growing up in a multi-cultural environment, I hope to engage with my unique perspective to help build engineering systems that suit diverse cultures and needs.
