ABOUT YING ZHAO
I enjoy interacting with children and helping them with myopia management. My own experience of being nearsighted at a young age led to this journey. I still remember how helpless I felt when my glasses prescription increased steadily at every eye exam. The 12-year-old me was filled with so many questions and fears. Fortunately, my parents did their own research and got me myopia control glasses. I am proud to say that they have kept my glasses prescription the same since high school. Now that I am on the other side of the exam room, I want to do better. Myopia management is a rapidly growing area and we have more ways than ever before to help kids. It\'s my job to advocate for it; parents shouldn\'t have to do their own research in order to learn about it. At Avenue Eyecare, I offer a wide range of myopia management options, including low-dose atropine, orthokeratology lenses, soft multifocal contact lenses (MiSight, NaturalVue, Soft OK, SpecialEyes), and specialty glasses (MiSight spectacles, Miyosmart). Speaking Mandarin definitely helps build the patient base since Asian ethnicities are particularly prone to nearsightedness. Being able to grow with my pediatric patients and build rapport with their entire families is extremely rewarding. With all the current contact lens options, I have witnessed firsthand how children gain confidence both in and outside of the exam room. Their moms would often show me photos and videos of their children winning different types of competitions. Making a small impact on their growth journey makes what I do meaningful.
