About Yimin Li

Technology leader and entrepreneur with 20 years of experience in Silicon Valley developing state-of-the-art electronics, optics, laser technology and lidar sensors. My journey with sensors and opto-electronics dates to the 1990s when I was a doctoral student and became one of the pioneers developing lasers to trap Cesium atoms. As a Principal Investigator at China’s National Science Foundation, I led a 10-person team to turn the atom trap into an atom fountain apparatus for studying atomic clocks. In I joined Argonne National Lab in Chicago to work on trace analysis using atom traps, a technology later used to date ancient water underneath the Sahara Desert, which was widely reported in Science and the New York Times. My Silicon Valley startup experience began with an ill-timed fiber optic startup at the peak of the telecom bubble. Weathered the post 9/11 period working with ultrasound equipment in the medical imaging industry at Agilent and GE Health. Then in 2008, I got back into optoelectronics and stumbled upon a cool new technology called LIDAR when I joined Velodyne. Little did I know at the time that the HDL64-S3 sensor that my team worked on would spawn a new industry and would lead me years later to cofounding Innovusion. Finally in 2016, I got together with an old classmate - Junwei Bao - and we embarked on our latest entrepreneurial journey as we founded Innovusion.
