ABOUT YIĞIT A.
I work at the intersection of research, advocacy, and organisational leadership, focusing on digital rights, including platform governance, data justice, privacy and the lived realities of marginalised communities.Over the past decade, I’ve supported sxx workers’ rights movements across Europe, working with national and regional organisations navigating digital transformation, political pressure, and structural change. My work combines movement building with interdisciplinary research, grounded in close collaboration with grassroots organisations. As a PhD researcher at the University of Sheffield, I examine how platformisation, digital exclusion, and data practices shape access to rights, safety, and visibility. My research draws on sociology, communication studies, and technology policy, and connects academic inquiry with real-world impact.Across my roles, I have:Built and managed multi-country programmes on digital rights and online safetySupported networks in shaping EU and national policy responses to online censorship, surveillance and criminalisationStrengthened organisational operations, finance and governance structuresConducted research with multiple institutionsPublished on privacy, platform power, accountability, stigma and human rightsI focus on connecting academia and activism, policy and lived experience, and strategy with implementation. I’m particularly interested in roles and collaborations that advance digital rights, platform accountability, and evidence-based policy.
