ABOUT YIFEI WANG

I am a driven and compassionate dietetic intern at Cornell University. I got my Master\'s Degree in Nutrition Science from Tufts University, am a gerontologist by training, and professional in healthcare industry. With the passion in working with the elderly population, and I strongly believe that behavioral changes in nutrition and life style is very important in improving the overall well-being of a person, especially the aging cohorts, who, as the unprivileged group should have more access to such benefit. I am currently enrolled in Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition, to further my interest on nutrition and aging and explore the research in this realm. In the mean time, I am taking the combined DPD program at Simmons University to become a registered dietitian. For my research interest, I am focused on studying the interaction between nutrition and aging, and to be more specific, in the diet pattern among older adults with Chinese background and its influence on the risk for age-related chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and vascular diseases. I would like to conduct nutrition education and intervention program on behavioral change in their diet and lifestyle, among Chinese senior cohorts using innovative, active and multi-channel messaging especially popular new social media tools, like Wechat, Yutube, etc. Currently, I am working with the research team to create educational videos on topics related to senior groups, like physical training for preventing stroke and rehabilitation, nutrition and diet education. I have also been working as a researcher of a research project: “Fall Preventions Among Community-dwelling Seniors in Beijing, A Randomized Control Pilot Study” in Beijing since July, 2019, led by a groups of researchers from John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. I have been performing the eight-week home-based intervention on seniors with fall history, which includes weekly exercise training, environment safety, nutrition, etc. My professional passion is improving the nutrition and health of older adults with Chinese background through evidence-based, culturally tailored interventions and education on behavioral changes such as diet and physical activity. My career goal is to create a brand new interventions tailored for Chinese older adults and caregivers and working with the elderly to gain better skills and awareness on their nutrition and health life style. I hope to work with faculties of your school with relevant research interest and experience to expand the edge of this area.
