ABOUT YI YEE LI
During my undergraduate studies in Mathematical Economics and Statistics at the University of Birmingham, I achieved a leading GPA and ranked first in my department out of nearly 400 students. In July 2025, I successfully completed my MPhil in Economics at the University of Cambridge and was awarded the degree, further consolidating my academic foundation and research capabilities.I seized various research opportunities to broaden my skills and perspectives. For instance, driven by my interest in energy economics, I worked as a research assistant on a project led by a professor at the research institute, focusing on energy accessibility, power supply, and manufacturing development. This experience equipped me with the flexibility to apply econometric methods to real-world complexities. I introduced an interaction variable vector in the fixed effects model to control for spatial heterogeneity in economic growth, designed a \"coal accessibility index\" as an instrumental variable, and constructed a 2SLS model to address endogeneity. These experiences sharpened my independent thinking and deepened my understanding of how resources influence economic development in Chinese cities.Classroom knowledge alone is insufficient for research. In the summer of my second year, I attended a summer school at Imperial College London, where I learned advanced AI and machine learning methods. I enhanced my Python skills, learned to process unstructured data like images, and prepared for economic research in the big data era. Later, I participated in a research project on Chinese SMEs at Birmingham, exploring real-world business challenges and proposing feasible solutions through economic analysis.Beyond academic resources, I actively pursued industry exposure to gain market insights. From being an ESG research assistant at the China Academy of Green Finance to an industry research intern in the power and new energy group at Guolian Securities, a risk consulting intern at KPMG, a data analysis intern at Deloitte in Shanghai, and an assurance intern at EY in the UK, I continuously explored new possibilities to identify the field I am most passionate about for my post-graduation career. In September 2025, I joined the EY UK Assurance Graduate Scheme, where I am pursuing the ICAEW professional qualification while gaining hands-on experience in corporate audit and assurance. I look forward to applying my academic training to real-world business challenges and continuing to develop as a professional in the field of accounting.
