ABOUT YESSENIA FUNES

I\'m an environmental journalist: a writer, a reporter, an editor, a storyteller. These days, you\'ll mostly find my writing at Atmos, where I serve as editor-at-large and cover environmental and climate justice. As an independent journalist, I also report for other outlets, including The Guardian, Grist, Vogue, Cosmo, i-D, and more. I publish my own independent climate newsletter called Possibilities, a creative space that explores the possibilities that lie where the climate crisis meets community. I also offer editorial consulting and research work. I have worked on storytelling consultancy with Textile Exchange, as well as other philanthropic organizations. I am a great public speaker, too: I talk plenty about specific environmental issues I\'ve covered, as well as the broad impact of climate storytelling. I\'ve been covering climate change for 10 years. In that time, I\'ve covered presidents\' environmental successes and failures. I\'ve covered environmental policy. I wrote about the Green New Deal before the framework lived by that name. I\'ve witnessed supercorals spawn under the Hawaiian moon. I have walked the Arizona desert borderlands to understand how heat is affecting migrants. I visited Puerto Rico to investigate a potential lead crisis following Hurricane Maria. I\'ve spent time in the remote Miskito villages of Nicaragua to cover the aftermath of Hurricanes Eta and Iota. I\'ve produced a fashion shoot to profile Quannah Chasinghorse, an Indigenous climate activist-turned-model. I\'ve investigated the reality of incarcerated wildland firefighters. I only hope to tell stories that matter, stories that inspire, stories that evoke change.
