ABOUT YESAR AL-MALEKI
Yesar Al-Maleki is a Gulf Analyst at MEES and an energy economist with a broad interest in the interrelated topics of energy, geopolitics, and economics in the Gulf region. Previously, he served as the Managing Director of the Iraq Energy Institute in Baghdad, where he led research programs focusing on Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan’s oil, natural gas, and power sectors, as well as issues related to water, climate challenges, the economy, and politics. His experience also includes working for the International Energy Agency (IEA) and several international oil companies. Mr. Al-Maleki is a Non-Resident Scholar at the Middle East Institute and a Research Fellow at the Institute of Regional and International Studies at the American University of Iraq-Sulaimani. He specializes in studying rentierism in the Gulf region and the prospects for economic diversification. He holds a master’s degree in Energy Economics and Management from IFP School and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Exeter.
