Project: Hydro Hybrids - Funded by Department of Energy (DOE)’s Water Power Technology Office (WPTO)- Designed frequency and voltage control for integrating battery storage with small hydropower plants to improve performance and achieve automated and manual recharge- Investigated robust selections of control parameters for standalone small hydropower plants with battery storage- Performed power hardware-in-the-loop (PHIL) tests in Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) to derisk Felt Power Plant black start field demonstration- Supported black start field demonstration of Felt Power Plant, solving technical problems encountered during the field test- Validated models in MATLAB/Specialized Power Systems and RSCAD- Contributed to implementation guidelines for retrofitting grid-dependent small hydropower plants to enable black starting capabilities2. Project: Resilient Rural Wind - Funded by DOE’s Wind Energy Technologies Office (WETO)- Developed optimal sizing of wind-hybrids for rural loads, identifying energy needs of different load types- Developed reliability metrics for assessing wind-hybrids during resilience planning stage- Performed case studies using proposed sizing and reliability metrics- Implemented optimization problem in Python and MATLAB3. Project: Air-Brayton System Design for Grid Applications - Funded by DOE- Built microreactor models for grid application on RSCAD and MATLAB- Validated model in MATLAB/Specialized Power Systems and RSCAD/RTDS4. Project: Grid Services PHIL Testing - Funded by ElectricFish - Reviewed 1547 and UNIFI Consortium for the interconnection of ElectricFish charging modules with INL PHIL testbed- Prepared test plans for PHIL testing5. Stability Studies-Perfomed dynamic, steady state, and fault analysis using PSSE, RSCAD, PSCAD, MATLAB, and MATPOWER
