About Yelena Okonechnikova

Passion and dedication are the traits that best define me as an individual. My engineering background combined with strong business acumen, give me a unique perspective on how to deal with the challenges faced by today’s project managers. With over two decades in technology, I have deep expertise in predictive and adaptive project life cycle management, including waterfall, Agile, SCRUM, Kanban and XP methodologies. I also have advanced specializations in PM domains such as requirements management, business analysis, and risk management and I hold PMP and PMI-ACP certifications from the Project Management Institute. Colleagues know me as a strategic thinker with an innate talent for problem solving and a passion for learning. I firmly believe in building strong project teams, focusing on the customer at all stages of a project, encouraging diverse perspectives to drive innovation, and keeping the big picture in mind at all times. I thrive in challenging situations and when navigating uncertain times, consistently improving existing processes, procedures and tools to improve efficiency or create better outcomes.I moved into program management following a long and successful career as a software engineer. This prior experience helped me build an in-depth understanding of the software development process and allows me to provide meaningful support to my team members while anticipating and addressing issues before they become problematic. During my career, I have managed matrixed teams and multimillion-dollar project budgets. I have an extensive background in working with distributed multicultural teams and I adapt easily to different cultures.In addition to my project management career, I have experience as an educator, teaching graduate level courses in project management at Northeastern University. I hold a BS in Electrical engineering, an MS in Computer Science and an MBA.
