My journey so far: I grew up working-class and first-generation in a suburb of LA, as the son of Chinese immigrants who came to the US without degrees or English. I had no blueprint for breaking into elite circles, so I reverse-engineered everything through trial and error. I made the journey from LA to Swarthmore College on a full-scholarship and saw first-hand just how high the barriers are for students like me to break into elite circles like consulting, tech, and grad school. While working 6 different part-time jobs, I maintained a 3.9 GPA and figured out systems to study, network, and build a career from scratch. Before corporate America, I took a gap year to live at the Southern Shaolin monastery + study Mandarin in Taiwan. It taught me that feeling alive and connected beats prestigious accomplishments. This lesson shaped every career decision that followed. I started in economic consulting at CRA, doing math for lawyers - turning complex data analysis into compelling arguments that could swing multimillion-dollar cases. I taught myself to code and learned to add value as the youngest voice in the room. 🤔 After 2 years, I faced the classic consultant\'s dilemma: MBA or job market. I took a chance on myself and leveraged my first-gen hustle to land at Adobe as a post-MBA hire without the MBA or debt. It taught me that strategic positioning beats experience. The right story > the right credentials. At Adobe, I delivered recommendations to executives 10-20 years my senior on problems like growing a $3B ARR base 20-30% annually. They listened because I built trust by meeting them where they were, then crafting solutions that addressed their actual problems. — Each pivot taught me something crucial about strategic positioning.
