ABOUT YEHIA IBRAHIM

As the General Coordinator of UCLG-MEWA, the Middle East and West Asia section of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG)—the world’s largest network of cities—I provide strategic leadership for the organization’s mission to elevate the role of local and regional governments across the MEWA Region on the global stage. I guide the overall coordination, governance processes, and international positioning of UCLG-MEWA, ensuring that our members’ priorities and voices are reflected in global agendas, dialogues, and cooperation frameworks. With a professional background in social work and a strong commitment to social inclusion, sustainable development, and effective local governance, I oversee the development and implementation of research-driven initiatives, institutional programs, and strategic partnerships. I am dedicated to aligning UCLG-MEWA’s work with both global frameworks and regional needs, ensuring that our organization remains a trusted platform for collaboration, learning, and advocacy. In this role, I lead the coordination of policy processes, membership engagement, international cooperation, and multi-stakeholder initiatives. I work closely with mayors, municipal delegations, regional institutions, and global partners to enhance UCLG-MEWA’s impact, strengthen its governance mechanisms, and support cities in responding to emerging challenges with innovative and people-centered solutions. My approach is grounded in the belief that international collaboration and locally rooted knowledge are essential for building inclusive, resilient, and future-ready cities. I am committed to empowering local and regional governments to navigate global transformations, access meaningful opportunities, and contribute proactively to shaping the future of sustainable urban development in the MEWA Region.
