ABOUT YARA ABOUZEENI
I am an Honours International Relations and Developmental Studies student with a minor in Economics at the University of Windsor, passionate about law, criminal justice, public policy, and global affairs. My academic journey is complemented by extensive leadership experience across student governance, campus programming, and community advocacy, where I focus on creating meaningful and inclusive student impact.I currently serve as Blue and Gold Coordinator with the University of Windsor Students’ Alliance (UWSA), where I support large-scale campus programming, oversee event logistics, and lead recruitment, training, and coordination for student volunteer teams. I also contribute to student advocacy and outreach through my work with the UWSA SREO Events Team and as a FAHSS Student Ambassador, representing the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and supporting student engagement initiatives across campus.Within student governance, I serve as the Second-Year Representative on the Political Science AAU Council and for the Pre-Law Student Society, where I advocate for student interests, contribute to departmental decision-making, and help develop academic and professional programming for peers. As President and Founder of Paws for Cause, I lead a growing student organization dedicated to supporting local animal shelters across Windsor-Essex through fundraising, adoption advocacy, and student wellness initiatives. I oversee a team of 30+ executives and coordinators, manage large-scale events such as Therapy Dog Sessions and Puppy Yoga, and direct initiatives that engage over 200 student members while raising funds for community partners. My professional experience also includes working as an Internal Affairs Officer with the UWindsor Mental Health Association, supporting campus mental health initiatives, and completing a legal co-op placement with Santarossa Criminal Law Firm, where I gained hands-on experience supporting legal professionals and observing court proceedings. These roles strengthened my skills in organization, teamwork, communication, and performing in high-pressure environments.Through leadership, governance, and community engagement, I have developed strong capabilities in advocacy, event strategy, stakeholder coordination, and student representation. I am driven by a commitment to equity, service, and impact, and I aspire to pursue a career in law focused on criminal justice and public advocacy.Let’s connect!
