ABOUT YANNIK BAUER

I am a posthumanist and protopian driven by a lifelong curiosity about the world, especially the mind and intelligent systems. My work in Generative AI and agentic systems is dedicated to ensuring that we build our lives and world with the wisdom of science, technology, policy, and the humanities. My goal is to help create systems that are actually useful, ethical, and aligned with our societal and environmental well-being. In my current role, I guide applied R&D in GenAI, devising strategies and leading complex projects from ideation to production. I thrive on translating complex technical topics for diverse audiences in workshops, webinars, and articles, comfortably wearing the hat of a technical expert, developer, or project manager as needed. Through my client-facing consulting work, I\'ve discovered a passion for the full project lifecycle—from pitching and marketing to building lasting partnerships. I consider myself a connector, building bridges between diverse technical and non-technical worlds. I get inspiration and energy from exploration, learning, diversity, and communication with people from all walks of life. My interdisciplinary journey to AI began not with code, but has taken me from French & Linguistics to Psychology & Philosophy, and from there to a PhD in Computational Neuroscience. Starting from a non-academic background in a Northern German village, it has moved on many improbable paths, also including stints as a volunteer for people with special needs in Scotland, and as a journalist in Togo. This has taught me to adapt, see multiple perspectives, find clarity in complexity, think in systems, and become a generalist who dives deeply into specialist topics. I try to balance idealism and principles with pragmatism and situational consequentialism. I am neither a techno-optimist nor a doomer, but believe in navigating the ambivalence between immense enthusiasm for AI\'s potential and its profound challenges. I see AI as our most powerful tool yet, placed in the larger landscape of many more global challenges asking for solutions (climate change, global health, social justice.), before we run out of time to find infinity. Outside of work, my hobbies past and present include triathlons, fine arts, guitar, juggling, dancing, yoga, and Vipassana meditation–exploring perception, cognition, consciousness, emotions, the self, and the body in all their facets. If you are a fellow innovator, tech leader, builder, or integrator looking to collaborate on a more thoughtful and robust present and future, I would be delighted to connect.
