My research focuses on exploring ethical design requirements for smart city technologies. Employing a Design Science Research (DSR) approach and building on Value Sensitive Design (VSD) as a theoretical framework, I explore different stakeholder perspectives and their values to contribute to more ethical smart city initiatives that prioritize human values (quality of life, security, safety.) instead of technical values such as efficiency. By deriving actionable requirements and design principles, my work aims to contribute to the creation of smart cities that are both innovative and ethically responsible.
