ABOUT YAN MANUEL ESTRELLA

As a BPS under the New York City Department of Education (DOE), I am committed to creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment that supports academic growth, emotional development, and cultural awareness for all my students. Previously, I served as a Coordination Supervisor in Home Health Care, where I led a team of healthcare coordinators to ensure the delivery of quality, compassionate care to patients and their families. In that role, I managed daily operations, scheduling, and communication within the coordination department, maintaining timely, efficient, and ethical service delivery. With over five years of experience in the healthcare field, I supported nurses, therapists, and social workers in implementing and managing patient care plans. My background in healthcare greatly influences my teaching philosophy—bringing a strong sense of empathy, organization, and community-centered values to the classroom. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Education degree at Brooklyn College with a focus on bilingual childhood education, I aim to empower young learners academically and culturally. As a fluent Spanish speaker, I bridge communication gaps and create inclusive spaces for my multilingual students and families. I am deeply motivated by the goal of uplifting and enriching the communities I serve—whether in healthcare or in education.
