The SBOL community serves to support researchers in the synthetic biology community to standardise the electronicexchange of structural, functional, and visual information related to biological designs. The SBOL Steering Committee acts toorganise and coordinate strategic issues for the community regarding funding, and setting key priorities to develop anddisseminate the SBOL standards and tools. We are currently working to update the SBOL website, further document the available SBOL tools, improve compatibility between SBOL2<>SBOL3, and we have recently published an analysis of a decade of SBOL Visual, with a view to support ongoing efforts to enhance the accessibility and clarity when using SBOL visuals in communicating genetic design information (https://arxiv.org/abs/25•••••01, in press with ACS Synthetic Biology).

ABOUT YAN-KAY H.
As the Events Manager for Cambridge Zero at the University of Cambridge, I bring together my skills and experiences in events, community, and project management to support the University of Cambridge’s contribution towards achieving a resilient and sustainable zero-carbon world. We do this by enabling, integrating and accelerating climate activities related to education, research engagement, policy, and innovation. In my previous Community and Project Manager role at the Open Bioeconomy Lab, a research group at the University of Cambridge, I engaged with researchers at the interface of the cross-disciplinary fields of Open Research, Biotechnology, and Synthetic Biology to connect, share with, and learn from an international community of researchers. Together, we built global collaborations for equitable access to biotechnological research to better serve the interests of the environment and society that we live in. Through my MSci and PhD training (at UCL), industrial experience (at Cambridge Consultants and Nuclera Nucleics), academic-related work (at Cambridge, UCL, and Birkbeck), and engagement with scientific community groups (like iGEM, CSCCE, Open Life Sciences), I have successfully built and maintained strong relationships with groups and individuals across multiple sectors, from all over the world. As a life-long learner, I seek every opportunity to get involved in activities that broaden my horizons and that can bring STEM/STEAM to the general public. Previously, I have volunteered on the iGEM Human Practice Committee, helped out at Institute of Making open days, supported and learnt from global community groups (like Friendzymes, the London SynBio Network, London Biohackspace, Gathering for Open Science Hardware, the Center for Scientific Collaboration and Community Engagement), and the Reagent Collaboration Network (Reclone). Beyond this, I am curious about developing open applications/tools that can be used to tackle real-world challenges, particularly with regards to biosustainablity, circular (bio)economy, societal/cultural change, environmental and conservation issues.
